That when a person starts to have a life - a somewhat happy life - long term friends end the friendship? If they can be a person's friend when that person is unhappy, why can't they stay friends when that person's life changes for the better?
Why can't they be happy for that person instead. Do they think they don't need them anymore just because their life has improved?
I don't get it. I guess I never will.

I have a former "friend" like that. I concluded that she liked me better when I was down because it made her feel superior. She was never able to celebrate happy events in my life.
I believe that a true friend loves you and is happy to share with you, regardless of whether you're going through good or bad stuff.
Some people thrive on other's misery. No drama, no interest.
They weren't your friend Deb. (and it's THEIR loss)
People like to have people around that they think they are doing better than, makes them feel good about themself. You upset them by taking that away from them. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
