*Rant Alert*

I'm going to do something that I'm pretty sure will stop me from ever getting the daily bestest blog award, but here goes.......

The Bestest Blog of All Time page is annoying as hell! I am hitting the "Next Blog" button, just to surf other blogs, and that stupid, self-serving page comes up every other time I hit it. THEN, when I hit the "Next Blog" button from there, it puts up a frame at the top of every blog I go to, which I am going to call their advertising frame but I'm sure the owner of the Bestest Blog will call something else, and I can't get out of the frame unless I close the browser and start all over.

Its fucking annoying! Not to mention that I have read (glanced at) the silly blog and its not a blog at all, it asks for money to lists your blog on its sidebar. Why the hell should I PAY someone to list my blog?? Geez, get a real job already.

Okay. Rant over.

*UPDATE*

I received a response from Mr. Griffin, who happens to run The Bestest Blog of All Time site, and I think that in all fairness I should post his response:

The reason I created this page has to do with mist1's comment "I never click the next blog button anymore. For every blog I like, there are 164,231 that make me want to throw up."

So, what my site has done is created a random blog surfing tool of higher quality blogs than the "Next Blog" button provides.

By the way PARLANCHEQ, the only reason I ask for a donation is because I am doing a favor to the blogger that increases exposure and normally drives 300-500 visitors to your blog in a 24 hour period (plus more over time). And I do stress the fact that it is optional.

You do not HAVE TO pay to have me list your blog, I have an absolutely free link exchange that I encourage everyone to join. The donations are for EXTRA, ADDITIONAL exposure for those who are particularly excited to drive visitors to their website. And by the way, I do have a real job, one of the most noble and lowest paying jobs out there: high school teacher. I run my blog (yes it is a blog) during my spare time (of which I have little) to make some extra cash (which probably works out to less than minimum wage, but I enjoy it).

That is a fair response, and I will give the man credit for his hard work, but the plain fact of the matter is that the "Next Blog" button has been hijacked by his site, and its extremely annoying and unwanted. At the very least a "Close Frame" command should be added so that anyone who does not want to surf his suggested blogs can opt out. Surfing random blogs is my middle of the night, when I have terminal insomnia, activity. I don't want to have someone else dictate to me what they think I should be seeing. It is just that simple.

Instead, I just go through everyone's blogrolls. Yes, your's too.

I feel so violated.

I noticed that, too. And if I found a blog I liked, I couldn't hit the back button to get to it again, it would just take you to a new, worse blog within their advertising window.

Yeah..that happened to me too...so I don't do it anymore either..Thanks,- didn't know how to express it as eloquently as you!
Peace

Yep, no Bestest Blog award for you, I'm afraid. At least you already have lots of admirers! Plus if you win Bestest Blog of the day you'd get an email asking you for a donation. I can only imagine the rant that would produce. ;)

Sorry, I really wasn't done, not sure why I hit submit. You do not HAVE TO pay to have me list your blog, I have an absolutely free link exchange that I encourage everyone to join. Maybe the problem is that blogging is a somewhat solitary sport. I don't know about you, but I'm not much of a joiner, and the bestest blog thing sounds a lot like a fraternity to me. After searching through god knows how many blogs, I've just given in and am working through the blog lists of everyone whose blog I enjoy. Oddly enough, the people I enjoy reading seem to enjoy reading other people that I enjoy reading. Go figure!

Oooh, Mr. Griffin, how formal. You're not one of my students, are you?

Anyway D, I am a random blog surfer by trade too, and I promise you that my collection is far superior (on average) to what you'll find on "Next Blog."

I would like to say that your close frame idea is a good one, not just for your reason, but for a few more that I just thought of myself. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to OPEN the frame, hopefully I can figure out quicker how to close it. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

By the way, if you're interested in checking out my free link exchange you can check out this website: http://bestestblogofalltime.blogspot.com/2006/07/link-exchange-win-win-situation-for-us.html
Can never get enough blogs from bloggers who actually put time and effort into their blogging process.

Anyway, in closing, thanks for having this discussion with me and I'm sorry for any heartache that I've caused you. Please do stop by sometime and give my site more than a glance...despite what you think, I do have a fairly large regular crowd who does really enjoy what I do.

Actually Mr. Griffin, according to your profile, I am old enough to be your ummm.. voluptuous and gorgeous older sister. lol

Why does it matter what I think? I never once said anything about nobody liking your site (except me). I cannot speak for the entire blogging world, only myself. And just FYI.. your frame didn't cause heartache, just annoyance.

Hahhaaaa! I just surfed in from the 'Bestest Blog of All Time' site. Ironic! The button must be good for something.... It brought me here!

I checked out Bestest Blog once, after Parlancheq won something and left a comment praising her blog. Never been back.

I check out links of all people who comment on mine, and when I have time, look into my favorite bloggers' links.

The "next blog" button is lame, and I have never found anything I liked. Maybe if I could read Chinese or Arabic, it would be different.

That's the thing, I have found several that I still love to read, Sassan's was the first and although he seems to have discovered that he has a life, which interferes with my enjoyment of his blog, I still go back and try to keep up with his posts. I (for one) like to occasionally scan and see what is out there.

I have similar feelings about the "Bestest Blogs" blog. Ironically, during my random sojourn through the "next blog" button (to which I am deeply dedicated and memorialize in one of my blogs), it is the only blog that has appeared more than once. Go figure.

Yikes, who knew that Bobby G was going to read a comment that I left on someone else's blog? I've probably been blacklisted on Bestest Blog. No wonder my readership went way down.

(Bobby: Only kidding! If you can make a few bucks off your blog, then more power to you.)

Deb said...

Yeah I was a bit surprised by it as well, and I'm sorry if he blacklisted you because of my post (although that would be a very childish thing to do, but oh well).
